A 1920s Southampton home, untouched since the 1950s, fully renovated and extended by Hinton House for a young family who love to entertain.
When our clients found Homestead, it was a 1920s house that had barely changed since the 1950s. Behind the dated décor, though, they saw a family home full of potential. From the very start, this was a complete renovation: every room reimagined and the home extended to suit the way they live today.
The Brief
Our clients, a couple with a young child, love nothing more than having friends and family round. They needed a home that could do two things well: be a calm, practical base for everyday family life, and open up easily for relaxed gatherings and evenings entertaining.
With the house untouched for so long, there was no question of patching things up. It needed a full renovation from day one, and they wanted one trusted team to guide them through it.
The Design Approach
With no notable period features to preserve, we had the freedom to rethink the home entirely, shaping it around how the family wanted to live rather than how it had always been. The ground floor was redesigned to flow naturally for entertaining, with sociable spaces that connect easily while still offering practical, family-friendly function day to day.
The Build
As a full design and build project, Homestead was delivered by Hinton House Interiors and Hinton House Construction working together from the first sketch to the final finish. Taking a home from the 1950s to the present day meant a complete strip-back and renovation alongside the new extension. With design and construction under one roof, decisions were made early, on paper, where changes are simple, and the process stayed calm and seamless for our clients.
The Result
Homestead is now a warm, modern family home made for gathering, with room for a growing child and space to welcome friends.
