Riverside is a 1930s semi-detached home in Bitterne, transformed from top to bottom with a complete renovation, a new extension, a full interior redesign and a newly landscaped garden. The result is a beautifully functional family home that added over £120,000 to the property’s value.
The Brief
Our clients wanted a home that worked for every part of family life: space for the children to play, room to cook and eat together, a quiet place to work and somewhere calm to relax in the evenings. They wanted all of this without losing the charm of a 1930s home.
The Design Approach
We reworked the layout from the ground up to give every space a clear purpose.
At the heart of the home is a bright, open-plan kitchen and family room, thoughtfully zoned with dedicated areas for dining and play so the whole family can be together while each space still does its job. Alongside it, a separate living room offers a traditional yet elegant retreat, a nod to the home’s 1930s character and a peaceful counterpoint to the busy family space.
Practicality runs throughout, with a new utility room, WC and home office making daily routines easier, and a stylish family bathroom with both a bath and a separate shower.
The Garden
The transformation continued outside. We designed a landscaped garden with a new sun terrace and step-free access, so the indoor and outdoor spaces connect seamlessly and the garden becomes a true extension of the home.
The Build
As a full design and build project, Riverside was delivered by Hinton House Interiors and Hinton House Construction working together from first sketch to final finish. Every design decision was made with the build in mind, which kept the process calm, seamless and stress-free for our clients.
The Result
Riverside is now a home that looks beautiful and works brilliantly for family life, inside and out. The renovation added over £120,000 to the property’s value, and the home was featured on Channel 4’s Location, Location, Location.
